§ 2-262. Membership.

Latest version.
  • (a)

The Irmo Okra Strut Commission shall consist of not less than five, nor more than seven, regular members who shall be appointed by the town council for three-year terms, staggered so that no more than three members shall expire in any given year. In the first year of implementation of this subsection, members shall be appointed for one-year, two-year and three-year terms in order to establish the staggered commission terms. Appointments of each commissioner shall be notated as to the date of their term's expiration. Appointments shall be made each December to be effective January 1 and expire December 31, as appropriate. The term "regular members of the commission" refers to voting members who shall be residents of the Town of Irmo, or own property, or own/operate a business within the town limits, or be a resident of the Lexington/Richland School District 5 and/or operate licensed businesses within the town. Subject to the restrictions of this section, the Lake Murray-Irmo Women's Club may nominate one of the regular, voting members to the town council for consideration. The town administrator shall serve as an ex-officio member of the commission.

    (b)

The Okra Strut Commission may appoint additional nonvoting members to the commission on the recommendation of Irmo area civic or service clubs, or upon recommendation of commission members, or town council members, for one-year terms. Such members may participate in all facets of commission activities, subject to commission and town council policies and procedures, with the exception of exercising voting privileges as regular members of the commission.

    (c)

All members of the commission shall serve without compensation, but may be reimbursed for actual expenses, subject to town policies and procedures. Expenses of nonvoting members must also be approved by the chairperson of the commission before submission to the town administrator for approval.

    (d)

An Okra Strut Administrator/Coordinator may be hired by a majority vote of council as either a W-2 employee or 1099 contractor. The administrator/coordinator will work directly for the town administrator and provide reports to the town council as needed. Compensation will be determined by the council based on experience and performance.
